Long time, no blog...

Yes, I've been very behind in posting the goings-on of the DHS band program. Suffice to say, it's been quite busy around here. Highlights since my last post:

  • Wind Ensemble auditions resulted in 16 new members for next fall.
  • A very successful solo and ensemble fest in which every Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble student participated in a chamber ensemble and were critiqued by professional musicians.
  • Guest Artist Susan Fancher spent two days with the Wind Ensemble, presenting a master class, joining us for two rehearsals, and performing the Michael Torke Saxophone Concerto on our "Night of Saxophone" concert.
  • The DHS Music Night at Potbelly in Deerfield, with performances by the Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, and The Hard Core-tet singers. A standing-room crowd enjoyed fine food and music, and Potbelly donated 25% of the proceeds to the music program.
Tonight is Spring Activities Night, when I get to meet a bunch of our incoming 8th graders. Always fun to see the future of the program!
Upcoming events: the Warrior Marching Band will perform for the ELS basketball game pitting DHS vs. HPHS, during the school day this Friday. Then a small group of marchers will provide music for the memorial service for Mr. Spriester on Saturday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Deerfield. In coming weeks, JB and drum major auditions and the annual Jazz Night concert (April 26, 7:30 p.m.).
A busy spring, indeed!
